Creatures of Curiosity and Charisma

Creatures of Curiosity and Charisma

My pet cat was always a curious cat the most curious cat of all in our small town. He would leave the house right after breakfast and not come back until tea and then he would curl up on the sofa. No one knew where he went or where he was going to but he always came back like a boomerang.  He was so curious but we always loved having him around my big sister would say he has a air of charisma around him. My sister is always coming up with big complicated words that I don’t understand.

Today, Saturday 3rd November, I wrote from 10:46 to 10:56 inspired by the prompts here.

Nov 3rd – Creatures of Curiosity and Charisma

November 3rd
Creatures of Curiosity and Charisma.

The Cheshire Cat had stopped smiling.

Not just any old Cheshire cat, this was The Cheshire Cat, with powers of invisibility and a smile that opened doors for him wherever he went.

Or used to.

Because, let’s face it, The Cheshire Cat was old news. He’d not been up to much, for a while, not since that stuff with Alice, and people were getting tired of that sort of thing. A cage fight with Macavity hadn’t really gone the way either of them had wanted, and the resurgence of careers both of them were expecting didn’t happen. Macavity had taken it on the chin, but the Cheshire Cat wasn’t ready to give up.

Or he hadn’t been.

But now he had stopped smiling, and when his grin faded, so did he. It wasn’t like becoming invisible, it was just a sort of fade, a slow shift from being there into not being there, with nobody being quite able to say where one state ended and the other began. He needed to start smiling again, and soon. He needed to be something again soon.

The Cheshire Cat was lapping at some almost-turned milk when the advert caught his eye.

‘Wanted! Creatures of Curiosity and Charisma for a Travelling Show like no other! From the Big Top to the Top Hat to the Big Apple! Wonders of the Age!

Do you have a talent like no other? Do you want to see the world? Do you want to be special again?

Email us at for more details.”

The Cheshire Cat smiled widely, disappearing completely from the kitchen table. Unseen paws, somewhere below a disembodied grin, began to tap softly on a keyboard.

“Dear Sir or Madam, you may have heard of me. I was briefly significant for a short while…”

Creatures of Curiosity and Charisma

Today I wrote from 10:46 to 10:56 inspired by the prompts here. My other stuff is here.

Creatures of Curiosity and Charisma

A long walk on a dark night. A deep forest on the edge of a sparse city. All life in the urban environment was at slumber. He stumbled on through the wood, urgently, head down, no sense of where he was, or what was around. A need to walk. And to walk fast.

Moving briskly he didn’t heed the noises around him, only his own deep breathing, the rhythm of which was so even he soon stopped being aware of that too. Suddenly he burst from the trees and hit a wide dark river. With nowhere to go, no purpose at all, he simply turned and followed it.

Headlong alongside the flowing water he continued, no idea, no interest in whether he was moving upstream or down. Occasionally the river gurgled or roared below him but mostly it was silently continuing its endless trip. He himself tripped on the first of the unseen railway tracks, a minute moment before the high speed express struck, ending his journey.
