Rules of Rejection – Dead Deer

Rules of Rejection

Rule 1: The rejection must be, or must be believed to be, total.

Rule 2: That which is rejected must strive to also reject itself.

Rule 3: That which rejects must continue to ensure that what is rejected maintains not only the rejected status, but a sense of continual rejection.

Rule 4: That which is rejected must strive to overturn the status of rejected at all times.

Rule 5: The attempts by that which is rejected to overturn the status of rejected must be futile. In every way, and every time, and for all time.

Rule 6: That which rejects must reject with a brutal kindness.

Rule 7: The rejection shall be so severe as to become a quantifiable entity itself.

Rule 8: That which rejects shall hold and maintain the lost acceptance.

Rule 9: That which rejects shall embrace this acceptance fully and wholly for itself.

Rule 10: I am The Rejection, thy God, and thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Rules of rejection

For her, there are no official rules in rejection.  She behaves as she should, if and when she receives some; with grace, yet fiercely – in equal measure.  She moves on when she wants and rarely explains why.  These are her rules.  And she never expects anyone else to understand them.

It’s taken years for her to be this carefree.  To be this brave.

Although she can no longer see them, she knows they’re still there.  The hidden reminders.  The haunting memories of her past rejections.  And the rules she once followed.
